Objectives

Meetings

Through the organization of high level technical meetings and seminars featuring lectures presented by prominent international experts, ASST aims at providing high level educational programmes to Arab specialists in fields considered important for the progress of the Arab countries.

So far, ASST’s meetings have dealt with a range of subjects including:

Energy.
Environment.
Mathematics.
Information Technology.
New materials.
Technology transfer.
Planning.
Product development.
Sensors.
Project management.
Concurrent Engineering.
Quality assurance.
Biosafety.
Power electronics.
Electronic data interchange.
Water desalination.

Tasks

Once the topics of each planned session are identified, a scientific committee for each session is formed, with the task of preparing the scientific programme, selecting the consultant, and recruiting internationally renowned lectures. The scientific committee also evaluates submitted short papers and selects those appropriate for presentation.

Participants

The majority of ASST’s participants consists of Arab researches, scientists and professionals. However, a number of places are reserved for Arab expatriates and scientists from other Islamic countries. Many international experts from Arab and foreign countries have attended the various sessions of ASST.

Venue

ASST’s meetings are held in a scientific establishment, such as Kuwait foundation for the advancement of science in Kuwait, at the higher Institute of Science and Technology in Damascus, or at a first class hotel or beautiful summer resort. However, few meetings have already been held in Morocco, Bahrain, Qatar, Egypt, and Lebanon.

Documentation

In the early preparatory stage of each its meetings, ASST issues a first announcement, which includes a preliminary scientific programme and application form, and distributes it to large number of research centers, universities, and scientific institutions throughout the Arab and Islamic World.
On the other hand, a booklet, containing more detailed information on the scientific programme, timetable, venue, accommodation and transportation etc, is distributed to all confirmed participants.
On the first day of the meeting, participants receive the proceedings. At the end of each session, the proceedings are published in a book form by an international publisher.

Social Activities

ASST regards organizing social activities and tourist programmes as an important activity that bears on the interaction and socialization between participants. Several activities are organized including visits to museums, cultural, historical and religious sites. In many cases, participants are invited to an excursion to one of the famous ancient cities.

Fellowships

In every meeting, ASST makes available to participants a limited number of fellowships. Each fellowship covers either the accommodation expenses, such as providing an air ticket (economy class). Priority in receiving these grants is given to Arab scientists and researchers who submit a short paper.

Cooperation with National, Regional, and International Organizations and Foundations

Various national and international organizations have had several cooperation programme with ASST. These include: Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT), National Research Center (Egypt), Qatar University, AGFUND, ALECSO, ESCWA, OPEC, UNESCO, UNEP and UNIDO, in addition to other organizations.
